SOUVENIR @ Ruthann Gallery, Catskill

Just what we need in this very cold winter, this show is like being enveloped in a warm hug!

Leave it to our one of our newest Board members, the inimitable (and former gallerist) Jeff Bailey, to curate this wonderful show at the singular Ruthann Gallery of Catskill. Showcasing a diverse variety of works from gifted artists (including Millay alum Paolo Arao), this exhibition was inspired by a poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay (with 10% of sales benefitting Millay Arts).

On view through April 11th.

TOGETHER WE MAKE ART HAPPEN.

Artists: Paolo Arao (Millay Arts alum), Louis Fratino, Brenda Goodman, Chris Hammerlein, Frederick Hayes, Lonnie Holley, Meg Lipke, Christian Maychack, Donna Moylan, Amy Pleasant, Paul Sepuya, Aaron Michael Skolnick, Cary Smith, Marisa Tesauro, Tamara Zahaykevich.

Souvenir ~ Edna St. Vincent Millay
Just a rainy day or two
In a windy tower,
That was all I had of you—
Saving half an hour.

Marred by greeting passing groups
In a cinder walk,
Near some naked blackberry hoops
Dim with purple chalk.

I remember three or four
Things you said in spite,
And an ugly coat you wore
Plaided in black and white.

Just a rainy day or two
And a bitter word.
Why do I remember you
As a singing bird?

The poem’s breezy and sharp recollections of time spent together, of fleeting moments, pointed feelings, and, ultimately, fondness, provide the context for works that touch on intimacy and affection, humor and sadness, absence, and memory.
