SCHOOLS, WORKSHOPS, SOLTICE!

Our second month of the 2016 residency season is nearly finished and already the time has been incredibly fruitful. The pastoral surrounds provide the obvious metaphor, but truly the budding trees and peeping bogs fill the fields and studios with bursting life. It’s easy to be inspired here.

Just ask our May residents:

Ching Chu-Hu, Composing, Newark OH

Shira Erlichman, Poetry, Brooklyn, NY

Toru Hayashi, Visual Arts, NY, NY

Colleen McCubbin Stepanic, Visual Arts, Springfield, PA

Andrew Nurkin, Poetry, Lambertville, NJ

Celine Song, Playwriting, NY, NY

They will be wrapping it up this week and this weekend the Colony will be home to the Melissa Febos workshop The Very Short Essay. Every year she teaches here is chock full and plenty productive by all accounts.

We love supporting all aspects of art-making, whether via residency, facilitated workshop, our upcoming Solstice party at Solas in NYC which will provide connection and opportunities for conversation, and of course through our school programs.

Speaking of our school programs….here are some photos from Danniel Schoonbeek’s two-week Poetry residency in Germantown High School. It was an astonishing program and particularly rewarding for us to bring back a Millay alum to the Colony for the unit. The students worked with postcards as a confined space, among other activities, and we’ll be featuring Danniel’s write-up on the unit shortly.

Meantime, enjoy these peeks at the festivities!
