Curious about our LOGO?

A recent discussion with Committee members became focused on the behind-the-scenes story of our logo and name change (formerly Millay Colony for the Arts), along with a singular mission revision, launched in 2021. These essential revisions all reflect our commitment to growth and timeliness.

We have been delighted with the receptivity to changes and are also filled with endless gratitude for our very own Abby Tovell, Board Secretary (who serves as our in-house graphic/web designer) as well as Founder/Principal of T-Square Design in Housatonic, MA.

Abby remarked that while the array of colors represents the various disciplines of the Artists-in-Residence that we host, it also speaks to our commitment of offering a rich and wide diversity of perspectives and experiences, essential to our community of international creators as well as supporters.

The font chosen is Futura, for two reasons. Symbolically, it represents a vision for the future, one that our constantly evolving organization is deeply invested in. Aesthetically, the pointed tops of the capital M closely resemble the trim above the doors of our historic, and much loved, Barn facility.

What also makes this logo so powerful (in our humble opinion) is the way it can be exploded to represent special events, programming and outreach — a colorful pinwheel recalling a children’s toy that is blown by the breezes but remains attached to single pole, all wheels spinning the same direction.

As with all great logos, Millay Arts’ works on many levels, and we couldn’t be more pleased!
