In November 2021, we welcomed Carolyn Clayton from North Adams, Massachusetts as our second Martha Boschen Porter Fellow.

“My month at Millay was an incredible gift allowing me to enter back into my studio practice with both ease and rigor. I say “enter back” because the last 5 years of my life has been very occupied with starting the Walkaway House residency project alongside my day job managing the Studios at MASS MoCA residency program. All of this lined up with becoming a mother in 2019, months before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Having a fully-funded residency to look forward to was a guiding beacon that got me through a super busy time when all of my attention was needed elsewhere than my art practice.
