Valentina holds a MFA in Film and Media Arts (Temple University), where she also worked as an assistant and adjunct professor, teaching practical and theoretical courses (2012–2016). Her Master’s research on performativity in documentary making was supervised by Tim Corrigan, author of Essay Film. Valentina has been making documentaries as a screenwriter, director and producer since 2002. Over the years, her work has developed at the intersection of documentary, visual arts and performance and, more recently, she has also dedicated herself to fiction projects. Se is currently working on the hybrid non-fiction film Under The Baobab Tree. Her first fiction feature, The Day Before, co-written and co-directed by Fernanda Bond, premiered at Olhar de Cinema, 2024. Her documentary and experimental shorts have been screened at dozens of national and international festivals (Critics’ Week–Cannes, Annecy, Directors’ Fortnight–Cannes, Havana, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Cartagena, Vila do Conde, Brasília, Festival dei Popoli, etc.) and her scripts have participated in markets and labs (DocMontevideo, Brasil Cinemundi, MiradasDoc). Valentina was a resident artist at the Sacatar Foundation (Brazil) in 2019, and, in 2016, she received the Flaherty Seminar grant. Since 2020, she has been working as a project consultant and facilitator of creative processes and, in 2021, she had two essays published in magazines (Nerva and Bacanal).
