Silvia Fômina is a composer, author, and stage director specializing in polyphonic music, micro-tonality, and micro rhythmics. From 1989 to 1991, she held a scholarship from DAAD.

Fômina was the First Prize Winner at the Vienna International Composition Competition in 1991 and won a prize from the Academy of Arts in Munich for her research in instrumental micro-tonal composition in 1993.

Between 1994 and 2015, she has been artist-in-residence at several institutions throughout the world, including Djerassi, Cité Internationale des Arts, Akademie Schloss Solitude, Wurlitzer Foundation, Tyrone Guthrie Centre, and Deutsches Studienzentrum.

Fômina produced commission works for Westdeutscher Rundfunk Cologne (1991) and the Berlin Biennial (1993).
