Peggy Bates lives and works in New York City. She received her Master of Fine Arts from Hunter College, New York. Bates has been exhibiting actively in New York since the early 1990s. She has a history of successful solo exhibitions, participation in international art fairs, grants and awards, and effusive critical praise and context in nationally recognized media sources such as The New York Times, Art in America, Vanity Fair, and Elle. Peggy Bates has been the recipient of residency fellowships at La Macina di San Cresci, Fundacion Valparadiso, Stichting Kunst en Complex, and many in the United States including: Yaddo, MacDowell, Hambidge, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her work has been highly exposed by her participation in several art fairs such as Art Miami, Art Wynwood, AQUA Art Miami.
