Nisa Ojalvo is an installation artist with a focus in durational performance art and photography, stemming from archival research. She has exhibited internationally, including at ChangJiang Contemporary Art Museum (China), Kunstgarasjen (Norway), Plas Bodfa (Wales, United Kingom), Objectifs – Centre for Photography (Singapore), and NOoSPHERE Gallery (New York), among others. Ojalvo’s images have been published in Art Asia Pacific, The Boston Globe, KunstForum, The New York Times, and ExBerliner. Her work is in museum collections, including the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, Tate Modern Museum Archive (London), the Spencer Museum (Kansas), Studio Museum Harlem (New York), and the Grey Art Gallery (New York).
Ojalvo is a founding member of the artist collective kelly | marhaug | ojalvo. Over five years of collaboration, they road tripped across the Arctic, United States, and Wales to create a large-scale installation of video and hanging scrolls in a work entitled Borrowed Landscape.
Ojalvo studied photography at Dartmouth College (BA East Asian Languages & Literature) and the International Center for Photography in New York City, where she currently resides. She holds a JD from George Washington National Law Center in DC and was an executive in the fashion industry for many years.
