Naomi Lifschitz–Grant is an Associate Professor of Art Education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She earned her Doctorate in Art and Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she also obtained an MA in Art Education. Dr. Lifschitz–Grant also holds an MAE in Instructional Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She studied painting at Brandeis University and was a resident at the Yale Norfolk School of Art.
Dr. Lifschitz–Grant has taught art for over 25 years. She started off her teaching career in K-12 schools in New York City. Before joining the UNCP faculty, she was an instructor in the art and art education program at Teachers College, Columbia University, and at Bank Street College of Education in New York City. She also taught at UNC Charlotte in the College of Arts and Architecture and supervised student teachers and taught in the Department of Art at Appalachian State University.
Dr. Lifschitz–Grant has exhibited her work both internationally and nationally and has had solo exhibitions in New York City at A.I.R. Gallery and 55 Mercer Street Gallery. She has been awarded several grants to pursue her creative scholarship and was most recently awarded the Faculty Summer Research Program to travel to Jerusalem to research a series of paintings based on ancient Jewish texts in response to the ongoing conflict in the region.
