Marcie Jan Bronstein is an interdisciplinary artist (ceramics, painting, photography) whose works have been exhibited, published, commissioned and collected for nearly forty years. Born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in the suburbs, imagination and creativity were an early lifeline. After college, it was in the years of living in Italy and wandering the streets of Europe with a camera that core ideas about art-making began to take shape. Exhibitions and residencies of note: “Foto Colorate,” Il Diaframma, Milan, Italy (invitational, 1994); “The Italian Series,” Casa Italiana, New York (solo, 1994); “Photographs 1992-1997,” Creative Photographic Arts Center, Maine (solo, 1997); “Parallax Women’s Photography Exhibition,” Notre Dame University, Maryland (invitational, 2012); “New England Photography Biennial,” Danforth, Maine (invitational, 2013); “Flash Forward Festival,” Photographic Resource Center, Massachusetts (invitational 2014); “Biennial Exhibition,” Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Maine (2018); “Being Here,” Zillman Art Museum, Maine (solo, 2020); “Eaux the Water,” Cove Street Arts, Maine (3 person, 2021); Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts (residency, 2021); Momento Ceramics, Locarno, Switzerland (residency, 2025, 2024, 2023). Above all, Bronstein is a studio artist. So, while decades of public interest and support for her work have been gratifying, nothing, ultimately, is ever as compelling as working in the studio.
