Working at the intersection of cultural studies, media studies, and feminist theory, Kate has authored multiple books, including most recently, The End of Forgetting (Harvard University Press, 2019), Content (The MIT Press, 2022), and School Yearbook: The Untold Story of a Cringey Tradition and Its Digital Afterlife (University of Chicago Press, 2025). Her writing on technology, youth cultures, and education can also be found in publications such as the MIT Technology ReviewWiredLiterary Hub, and the Times Higher Education Supplement

In addition to her contributions as a writer, researcher, and educator, Kate has held leadership roles at the director, department chair, and dean levels. She also has a long history of working as a consultant in the nonprofit and private sectors. Kate is currently a Professor of Culture and Media at The New School. Prior to joining The New School, Kate completed degrees at Trent University, Simon Fraser University, and York University, and from 2000 to 2008, she taught at Toronto Metropolitan University in the Arts & Contemporary Studies Program and Graduate Program in Communication and Culture.
