Karen Kanan Corrêa is a multi-instrumentalist, active as a songwriter, singer, producer, and performer. Her work explores the possibilities to truly subvert genre in music and challenges the traditional roles assigned in music by gender and age.

Karen is a versatile musician who has toured with Grammy (and Swedish Grammi) Award winners and experimental ensembles alike. As a singer, songwriter, and performer, Karen led the “dizzyingly addictive” (CMJ New Music Monthly) indie rock trio Demander through several albums and extended tours throughout the US and Europe. Her solo project, Futurebrite, combined live performance, electronic elements, and orchestration and was hailed early on as one of New York City’s “Best Emerging Electronic Bands” (Deli Magazine). Both projects led to innovative collaborations with groundbreaking musicians, artists, and producers, and have produced songs that have been featured in theater, television, and ad campaigns. She has been a songwriter at the prestigious ASCAP Lester Sill Songwriting Workshop in Los Angeles, California.

Karen holds a BA in music with honors from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and has studied with experimental pioneers Anthony Braxton and Alvin Lucier.
