Julian Jackson lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He studied painting, printmaking, photography, and performance at Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Massachusetts, and Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. His paintings have been exhibited widely nationally and internationally. Jackson had his fifth solo show with Kathryn Markel Fine Art in New York City. In 2017, he was featured artist at NY Artlab, Umeda Gallery, Hankyu, Osaka Japan, and exhibited at the Chautauqua Institute. In 2015, he had his second solo exhibition with Page Bond Gallery, Richmond, Virginia. In 2013, he had his fourth solo exhibition at Galerie Kaysser in Munich Germany. In 2011, he had solo exhibitions at Karan Ruhlen Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Page Bond Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, and Galerie Kaysser in Munich. He has also has solo exhibitions at 490 Gallery, Brooklyn, New York, and Galerie Kaysser, Ruhpolding, Germany.
Jackson has been awarded fellowships from the MacDowell, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Soaring Gardens, and has twice been visiting artist at the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus in Schwandorf, Germany. He currently serves on the artists advisory panel for BRIC artspace in Brooklyn, and is a member and former secretary of the American Abstract Artists.
Jackson’s work can be found in numerous public and private collections in the United States and abroad including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum, and the Phillips Collection, Washington, DC.
