Since her first play was chosen for production by Dale Wasserman at the Midwest Playwrights Laboratory, with actor/playwright Larry Shue in the lead, Judith Zivanovic has written over forty plays. They have been performed throughout the United States, including several in New York City and on the West Coast. Her play, Prairie was commissioned by the Old Opera House Players of Dell Rapids, South Dakota and later produced by the Columbia Entertainment Company in Columbia, Missouri and at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut. Her full-length play, Cupboards, won the Towngate Theater national competition and was produced in Wheeling, West Virginia. She has had several short plays produced in New York City by Love Creek Productions, Polaris North, and in the Samuel French Short Play Festival. She has taught playwriting at South Dakota State University and Kansas State University, and is the recipient of the Kennedy Medallion for her work with new play development for Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. She has received writing residencies to the Wurlitzer Foundation, Hawthornden Literary Retreat in Scotland, and Horned Dorset Colony. She is a graduate of The University of Evansville and The University of Wisconsin. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild, Chicago Dramatists, and the Minneapolis Playwrights’ Center.
