Jibade-Khalil Huffman’s work, spanning photography, video, writing, installation and, most recently, video games, is concerned with how things are depicted and our relationship, as both spectators and participants, in this media overload. His solo institutional exhibitions, performances and screenings include The Kitchen, New York; Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, Texas; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Frac Bretagne, Rennes, France; Kimball Art Center, Park City, Utah; Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, Charleston, South Carolina; Tufts University Art Gallery, Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts, and MoCA Tucson. Huffman’s work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at museums and institutions including Wexner Center for the Arts, Swiss Institute, New York; Portland Institute of Contemporary Art; The Jewish Museum, New York; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; The Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Hammer Museum. He is represented by Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles, and Magenta Plains, New York
His awards include the Grolier Poetry Prize, the Jerome Foundation Travel Grant and fellowships from Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, MacDowell, Yaddo, the Lighthouse Works, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Huffman was a 2015-2016 Artist-in-Residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem. His work is in the permanent collections of Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, California; Kadist, San Francisco, California/Paris, France; Pierce & Hill Harper Arts Foundation, Detroit, Michigan; Studio Museum in Harlem, Harlem, New York; and Tufts University Art Collection, Medford, Massachusetts.
