Iris Adler (1932–2004) was an artist from Highland Park, Illinois. Adler artwork centered on electronic audio-visual anatomical machines which often depicted hearts and brains. Her kinetic sculptures were often adorned with religious symbols and when they were plugged in “blood” flowed through their tubes, lids open and close, figures move, colored lights blink, brains glow, hearts throb, and machines buzz, beep, and rumble, often to the accompaniment of tinkling music box tunes. Adler received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
