Evan, aka Tiresias, is a hybrid artist, writer, director, composer, performer, puppeteer, curator, producer, mythmaker, shapeshifter, drag-thing, songbird, ritualist and oracle based in Brooklyn. Described as “a rara avis of experimental theatre” by The New Yorker and “one of the most enchanting performers in New York City” by The Brooklyn Rail, their work explores queer ecologies, weird mythologies, and speculative futures. This year, Tiresias was named an Inaugural Princess Grace Artist Fellow and the first-ever Artist-in-Residence at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin.
Tiresias has received Luce, Marshall, and Fulbright fellowships. They received master’s degrees in classical reception and devised theatre from King’s College, Cambridge and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and a bachelor’s in writing for performance from Brown.
Tiresias has developed over 20 original, full-length theatre productions on 3 continents, and presented works at venues such as Joe’s Pub (Public Theatre), MoMA PS1, Domino Park, Teatro Lúcido (CDMX), Ars Nova, Postmasters, Ballhaus Berlin, La MaMa, IKLECTIK Art Lab (London), HERE Arts, Agung Rai Museum of Art (Bali), The House of Yes, and the Edinburgh Fringe. Their written work has been published in HowlRound, Epiphany Literary Journal, Wussy Mag, Roxane Gay’s The Audacity, The Mays XXVII (“Full of life, love and expression.” – Kate Bush), Audrey Niffenegger’s Artists Book House, and is forthcoming in Fourth Genre.
