“I have been living and working in New York City for three decades. Starting my career in the late 1980’s, I worked as a window dresser at Bergdorf Goodman by day and documented the thriving Downtown drag scene by night, I earned my BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 1994. These disparate faces of New York, projected onto the grim backdrop of the AIDS Crisis, formed the foundation of my aesthetic. Distinguished by hand made costumes and matching sets, my trans and queer forward images of club kids, drag queens, and porn stars have become an important and immediately recognizable part of the queer cultural canon. My work has been shown at The FIT Museum, The Leslie-Lohman Museum, The New York Historical Society, and The Louvre in Paris, among many other venues in the US and Europe. I’ve had two monographs published: Super Eros in 1999 and COBBETT in 2008.”
